How to Create Scannable QR Codes That Actually Work

Contrast, quiet zones, error correction, and logo sizing tips for reliable scans every time.

· 6 min read

A beautiful QR code is useless if phones struggle to read it. The most reliable codes keep high contrast between dots and background, leave a quiet margin around the pattern, and use error correction level H when adding a logo.

Start with contrast

Dark foreground on a light background performs best. Avoid low-contrast pastel combinations, especially outdoors where glare reduces readability.

Use Customize QR's live Scannable indicator to catch weak contrast before you export or print.

Keep logos small

Center logos look great but cover data modules. Keep logo size under 30% of the code area and prefer ECC level H so scanners can recover missing data.
